What is VARI?

VARI (Vacuum-Assisted Resin Infusion) is a composite manufacturing process in which dry fiber reinforcement is placed on a mold, enclosed within a vacuum bagging system, and infused with resin under vacuum pressure. The process is widely used for manufacturing large and lightweight composite components where high structural performance, dimensional requirements, and controlled resin distribution are important.

Representative VARI Products?

Representative Products

Shuangyi Technology has extensive experience in the development and manufacturing of large-scale composite tooling and structural components for the wind energy and advanced composite industries.

Representative products include 147-meter, 131-meter, and 100-meter wind turbine blade molds, as well as wind tunnel sail molds and nacelle covers developed and manufactured for major international wind turbine manufacturers, including Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, GE, Nordex, and Doosan.

Our wind energy product portfolio covers turbine platforms from 2 MW to 20 MW, with customized nacelle covers developed for different turbine platforms, configurations, dimensions, and application requirements.

In addition to wind energy products, Shuangyi Technology manufactures carbon fiber composite components, including selected vehicle and UAV components produced using vacuum bagging technology. Depending on the product design and material system, these components can be manufactured as one-piece molded structures, offering advantages such as low weight, high structural strength, efficient forming, and corrosion resistance.

Our experience across large-scale wind energy components and carbon fiber applications enables us to develop composite products according to specific structural, dimensional, material, and production requirements.

VARI Manufacturing Capabilities?

Engineering & Manufacturing Capabilities

Shuangyi Technology has a professional R&D and engineering team of more than 200 technical professionals, with extensive experience in the design and development of VARI composite products. Our engineers have independently managed VARI-related projects and bring practical expertise in composite product and tooling design. This enables us to understand both the stated requirements and potential technical needs of our customers.

We also use professional finite element analysis (FEA) software to simulate and evaluate product performance under a range of application conditions, including rain, snow, and wind loads. These simulations support structural analysis and design optimization, helping ensure that the final product meets the required performance and application conditions.

On the manufacturing side, Shuangyi Technology operates 11 production workshops with approximately 2,000 skilled production employees, many of whom have years of hands-on experience in composite manufacturing. Our manufacturing capabilities cover a wide range of customized composite products, including wind turbine blade molds, nacelle covers, carbon fiber components, and complex-shaped composite parts.

By combining experienced engineering teams, FEA-based structural analysis, and large-scale manufacturing capabilities, Shuangyi Technology provides integrated solutions for the development and production of customized composite products.

When Is VARI Suitable?

Applications of the VARI Process

The Vacuum-Assisted Resin Infusion (VARI) process is widely used for manufacturing composite components that require a combination of low weight, high structural strength, consistent quality, and efficient production.

VARI is particularly well suited for large composite components used in the wind energy industry, including wind turbine blade molds, nacelle covers, and other large-scale structural components. The process provides effective laminate consolidation and is suitable for producing lightweight structures with high structural performance.

VARI is also widely used for carbon fiber composite components where weight reduction and structural strength are important. Typical applications include carbon fiber vehicle doors, structural support rods, UAV/drone fuselages, and drone wings.

The versatility of VARI makes it suitable for a wide range of customized composite products, from large-scale wind energy components to lightweight carbon fiber structures. By selecting appropriate reinforcement materials, resin systems, tooling, and process parameters, VARI can be adapted to meet different structural, dimensional, weight, and performance requirements.

The appropriate composite manufacturing process depends on component geometry, size, structural requirements, production volume, material system, tooling requirements, and target cost. Shuangyi Technology can evaluate these factors and recommend a suitable manufacturing process during the engineering development stage.

VARI Applications

From Design to Production

Our engineering team begins each project by gaining a clear understanding of the customer's technical requirements, application conditions, and production objectives. Based on these requirements, we develop and review the product drawings and engineering design, while working closely with the customer to confirm key specifications and details.

The project then moves into first-article production, where the initial part is manufactured and evaluated against the agreed requirements. This stage provides an opportunity to verify the design, manufacturing process, dimensions, and overall product performance before proceeding further.

Once the first article is approved, we move to pilot production, producing a small batch of parts for further validation. Adjustments and refinements can be made during both the first-article and pilot-production stages based on customer feedback and actual production results.

After the product and process have been fully reviewed and approved, the project proceeds to full-scale production. This structured approach helps ensure that the final product meets the customer's requirements before entering volume manufacturing.
